The project

CreativeScapes is a project taking place at the University of Southampton, supported by the Creative Campus Initiative. It is designed to involve students, architects, artists, designers, academics and other users in thinking imaginatively about the Highfield campus. This would focus on the concept of a new Creativescape (a building, a space and new landscape) taking the place of Building 38, the centre of Highfield Campus. This new Creativescape and its surroundings will be designed and imaged as a new hub for interaction, knowledge sharing and creativity within the campus.

Spaceshaper event

Here are some details in relation to the Spaceshaper event taking place
tomorrow (if you have registered also for attending one of the
workshops, more details will follow soon after).

Spaceshaper is a tool developed by CABE (Commission for Architecture and
the Built Environment) that "captures the views of professionals who
are running the space as well as those of the people that use the space.
Facilitated workshops discuss the results, design quality and how the
space works for different people". You can find out more here
http://www.cabe.org.uk/public-space/spaceshaper

but no previous knowledge is required to take part to the event.
The Spaceshaper tool will be used to evaluate the quality of place
surrounding Building 38 - the heart of Highfield campus.
This will create a valuable base for discussion and future visions to be
develop during the workshops phase.

The Spaceshaper event (and following workshop) will take place in
Building 44 ( School of Geography) in Room 1087/1089 (Ground floor -
next to Cartographic Unit)

You can find direction on this link
http://www.southampton.ac.uk/geography/images/masters/campus_map.pdf

The workshop rooms are centrally located and have a view on the areas we
will be exploring (facing Building 38).

The Spaceshaper event and workshops will be led by Solent Centre for
Architecture and Design. (http://www.solentcentre.org.uk/home)

Please bring you enthusiasm and creativity to contribute to the success
of the day.

9th June 2010 – Spaceshaper Event (9.30am – 3.00pm)
Using the Spaceshaper tool developed by Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) we will adventure and explore the campus, including Building 38 and its character and potentials. If you can, we would like you to attend one of the Vision Workshops on 9th or 10th June, but it is not necessary to do so. It is open to all Highfield Campus users, eg students, academics and other University staff

10th June or 11th June 2010 – Creativescapes Vision Workshop (9.30am – 4.00pm)
The Creativeescapes Vision workshop will involve a day of creative thinking and activity based on the materials and ideas collected during the Spaceshaper Event. Each workshop will involve 15-20 attendees, working alongside artists, architects and designers. If you plan to attend one of these workshops, we suggest that you attend the Spaceshaper event on 9th June, a good starting point to get you thinking about campus space and creativity.
